Walt and Bonnie Weaver are longtime Havertown residents. In fact, Bonnie was born in their Bon Air home in 1935 - the very place that inspired her name! And you might remember them from The Weavers’ Candle & Silk Flower Outlet, on Mifflin Ave., back in the 80’s & 90’s. This lovely couple has faced some tremendous challenges this year, including changes in their health and the loss of their oldest daughter in June. Their surviving daughters, Susan and Sheryl, are actively engaged in supporting their parents, but since both live out of the immediate area and are raising their own families as single parents, they need our help!
Walt, 91, is an Army veteran who served in Korea. He is coping with several health challenges. Bonnie, 90, has amazingly been Walt's devoted caregiver. But recently, Bonnie was diagnosed with Lyme Disease, and it has impacted her in ways that keep her from being able to do many of her daily caregiving activities. She also suffered an esophageal burn from medication she was taking during a recent hospital stay and is now on IV antibiotics and a restricted, soft diet that is different from Walt's. As a result, they have an immediate need for prepared meals that satisfy both of their restricted diets.
In addition, they would benefit from grocery gift cards so their food orders can be delivered, gas gift cards so their daughters can continue to travel to and from Havertown as often as necessary to help them, household products, and possibly help around the house in the form of minor home repairs and landscaping (if you are a professional handyman or landscaper and want to help, please email compassionunitedhavertown@gmail.com).
Your compassion - through a prepared meal, a donation, or hands-on help - will be a true gift to the Weaver family as they navigate these difficult days during Bonnie's recovery. Let's show these longtime neighbors that they are not alone! Message from the Weavers
We’re not exactly sure how to put this into words, but we have been so moved, and deeply impacted by your generosity to our family. We had no idea that this kind of benevolence was taking place in our beloved hometown, but boy - now we do!!
We’ve been showered with gifts, meals, household necessities, compassion, understanding, encouragement and countless other blessings - it’s what we like to call, “Love In Action.” It certainly has made a world of difference in our lives.
My parents have lived their entire lives serving, loving, ministering and putting others before themselves, and your program has been such a wonderful way for them to be on the receiving end of a lot of what they’ve sacrificed to give others over the years. What life and joy you have restored in our home!
We cannot express our thanks enough. The meals were SUCH A HELP!! Every last gift was SUCH A HELP!!
THANK YOU A BILLION TIMES!
With joy and love in our hearts,
Walt & Bonnie Weaver (and daughters)
