Martinelli Family Story

For nearly 20 years, Louis Martinelli has quietly answered the call whenever our community has needed him. Since first joining the Llanerch Fire Company as a 16-year-old volunteer, then moving to Manoa Fire Company, he has spent almost two decades responding to emergencies, helping neighbors in their most difficult moments—all while building a career as an elevator technician and raising a young family with his wife, Nancy, and their children, Leonardo (5) and Flora (3).

On May 5, while responding with the Manoa Fire Company to a brush fire in Havertown, Louis was injured when a large tree branch fell and struck him on the head. Thankfully, his firefighter’s helmet absorbed much of the impact, preventing even more severe injuries. However, injuries to his head and neck kept him out of work for several weeks.

Louis has recently returned to work, but only on light duty. Because he is still recovering from his injuries, he is unable to perform the physically demanding work that had long been an important part of supporting his family. In addition, he continues to undergo follow-up medical care and testing as he works through lingering symptoms. While assistance from family and Township benefits helped during his recovery, the extended loss of income has left the Martinelli family working to catch up on everyday household expenses.

Many of you may already know the Martinelli family from the meal train that was organized following Louis’ injury. That effort continues for those who wish to provide a home-cooked meal.

As Louis continues his recovery, we have an opportunity to help lighten the load for the Martinelli family in simple but meaningful ways. Every donation is a reminder that the community Louis has faithfully served for nearly two decades is here to support him and his family in return. Your gift of a gift card, household good, or clothing and activities for the children, allows the Martinellis to focus on getting caught up on past due bills that were affected by Louis' inability to work full time for a long period.

Thank you for helping us surround the Martinelli family with the same spirit of service, compassion, and neighborly support that Louis has shown to so many others over the years.
