John and Julie were college sweethearts at Drexel University. After marrying, they chose to move to Havertown to raise their family and establish roots. Since moving here, they've had three beautiful children - 4 year old Bennett, 3 year old Adeline, and 3 month old June. Life was certainly busy for this family of five!
Then came devastating news that would alter their lives - Adeline was diagnosed with Wilm's tumor in July. She is now receiving weekly radiation and 10 weeks of chemotherapy.
Julie's maternity leave just ended and she is now on unpaid leave to care for her children, especially Adeline during her cancer journey.
John is a UDFD firefighter but is not eligible for FMLA until October- his coworkers have covered his shifts ever since Adeline was admitted to the hospital and continue to do so.
This young family needs our help! Some kind hearted neighbors set up a meal train for them, but their needs are so much greater. With both parents out of work to tend to their children during Adeline's battle, they will struggle with groceries, clothing, household chores, and more.
Bennett is in preschool. He loves building things with magna tiles, kinetic sand, and Legos. He enjoys all things sports, especially soccer and basketball. He is also fascinated with construction stuff, and hotwheels cars and tracks. He also enjoys books and board games. His favorite color is red and he's into Spidey, Spiderman, Paw Patrol (Chase and Marshall), and Dino Ranch.
Adeline was scheduled to start preschool this year, but that will now be put on hold. She also loves building things with magna tiles, kinetic sand, and Legos. She enjoys crafts like painting, coloring, making bracelets, Playdoh, and stickers/sticker books. She loves riding her bike and scooter around the neighborhood, too! Her favorites these days are Paw Patrol (Skye and Everest), Pupstruction, unicorns, My Little Pony, Bluey, and Rubble and Crew.
June is a sweetheart who needs just the basics - diapers, food, and clothing.
The family also needs help with chores around the house that they won't be able to address as they care for their kids during this time. If you are able to help, or know a professional who may be willing to donated their services, the family needs a living room painted, concrete work to fix a front porch, and house cleaning services.
It's time to shine! Let's show this amazing family what can happen when neighbors come together to help neighbors
"Thank you SO much to CUH for organizing this for our family and thank you to the Havertown community. We are so incredibly grateful for the support." -Julie and John
